Twitch, YouTube Live and Kick

Follow a Twitch, YouTube or Kick channel: go-live posts in a channel, stream-overlay alerts, "Live now" on your fan hub, and "Live on …" next to the streamer's name.

Before you start

Needs setup on the server. Each of the three appears only when the server's operator has set it up: a registered Twitch application for Twitch, a YouTube Data API key for YouTube Live (plus a Google sign-in client if members should link YouTube), and a registered Kick app for Kick. Until then the section says the service isn't set up on this server. On the hosted service, ask us at [email protected]; on your own server, see the self-hosting configuration guide.

Twitch and Kick tell Missived about events by calling the server, so a self-hosted server needs a public https address for them. The section says so when this server can't receive events.

What following a channel does

Twitch YouTube Live Kick
Whose channel A member who linked Twitch as a broadcaster Any public YouTube channel Any public Kick channel
Posts Go-live card, plus the events you switch on Goes live, schedules a stream, stream ends Go-live card, plus the events you switch on
Stream-overlay alerts Follows, subs, gifts, cheers, raids, redemptions No Follows, subs, gifts, KICKs, redemptions
"Live now" on the fan hub Yes Yes Yes
"Live on …" next to the streamer Yes Yes, if they linked YouTube Yes, if they linked Kick
A role for subscribers Yes (linked roles) No Yes (linked roles)

Posts come from a bot named after the channel (with a BOT badge), as cards with the channel's avatar and a link to watch. Each event posts once, even if the service delivers it twice. Mentions in a viewer's message (a resub or cheer message) never notify anyone.

Twitch

  1. The streamer links Twitch. In Settings → Calendar & connections → Connections (phone: You → Connections), they choose Link as a broadcaster. Twitch asks them to let Missived read subscriptions, followers, bits and channel-points redemptions. It's read-only: Missived never posts to Twitch.
  2. Follow the channel. In Org Settings → Integrations → Twitch → Follow a channel, pick Whose channel, the channel to Post into, an optional Name, and the switches below. Choose Follow.
  3. Each Twitch subscription shows Confirming for a few seconds while Twitch checks this server, then On.

Post into the channel when the stream…

Switch Default Posts
Goes live on The stream card: title, game, viewers, preview image
Goes offline off A short line when the stream ends
New follower off "name followed streamer" (can be busy on a big channel)
New subscriber on With the tier
Gifted subs on Who gifted how many
Resub message on Months and their message
Cheer (bits) on Bits and the message
Incoming raid on Who raided with how many viewers
Channel-points redemption off The reward and what they typed

Also: Overlay alerts (on), "Live now" on the public hub (on), and "Live on Twitch" next to the broadcaster's name (on; shown only if they turned on Share my activity).

A go-live post looks like this:

🔴 Casey just went live — https://www.twitch.tv/casey
[card] Casey is live: Speedrun night
       Playing Celeste · 42 watching

An org can follow a channel once. A link made before the Twitch integration only had the subscriptions permission: the streamer links again as a broadcaster to add the rest.

YouTube Live

  1. In Org Settings → Integrations → YouTube Live → Follow a channel, paste the YouTube channel (youtube.com/@name or its UC… id; a single video is refused), pick where to Post in, and an optional Name.
  2. Choose what posts under Post when the channel…:
Switch Default Posts
Goes live on "🔴 Creator is live on YouTube", with the title, thumbnail and link
Schedules a stream off "📅 Creator scheduled a stream", with its start time
Stream ends off A short reply under the go-live post, with the replay link
  1. Two more switches: Show "Live now" on this org's public hub while it streams, and Show "Live on YouTube" next to the creator's name (only if they linked that channel under Settings → Connections and share their activity).

A followed row shows the next scheduled stream when there is one ("Next stream: … in 3 hours"). New uploads that aren't streams are a feed, which needs no setup on the server.

YouTube has no "went live" notification for other people's channels, so Missived notices a new stream from the channel's uploads within a few minutes (at once when the server receives YouTube's push notifications), then checks it every few minutes around its start time. The server has a daily allowance of YouTube API calls; if it is used up, checks wait until the next day and the section says so.

Kick

  1. In Org Settings → Integrations → Kick → Follow a channel, enter the Kick channel (kick.com/name or just the name), where to Post in, and an optional Name. The streamer doesn't need to do anything.
  2. Choose what posts under Post when…:
Switch Default
Goes live on
Goes offline off
New follower off
New subscriber on
Renewed subscription off
Gifted subs on
KICKs gifted on
Channel reward redeemed off
  1. Three more switches: Fire this org's stream-overlay alerts for follows, subs, gifts, KICKs and redemptions, Show "Live now" on the hub, and Show "Live on Kick" next to the streamer's name (only if they linked Kick and share their activity).

The row says how many events Kick has subscribed, for example "8 of 8 Kick events subscribed". Kick chat messages and bans are never subscribed.

What data moves

Missived never sells or shares data, and nothing moves until someone in the org connects a channel.
